It was a rough start to the season for me. I entered the 3/4s race to get some more crit racing experience and hopefully add to my points to upgrade. I intended to race smart – not go out too hard or do much work – to contend for some points at the finish. Bill and I talked on the way down, and he correctly thought that most breaks would get chased down and there would be a bunch of sprints at the end.
Unfortunately, I played it a bit too cautiously and was out of position in the final turn. I decided to give it a go and see how high I could place, but I had to move through a big crowd. I was making some headway when I got blocked in and had to slow down just as a rider crashed in front of me. Because I was in the middle, there was nowhere to go but down.
I got up and crossed the line but in 48th of 55.
