Conditions were cold and windy. Sustained wind 20mph with gusts to 40. With wind chill 45 degrees. Perfect racing weather. Rolled out easy into a strong tail wind. I looked back and they were letting me roll off the front at 200 watts, 28mph because of the tail wind. Figured I would make them work to cover the gap so I went hard. Half a lap in the gap was 20 bike lengths. The strongest guy in the field rolled up to my wheel and said” looks like it’s you and me”. He pulled through hard for 1.5 laps, while I held on and the group was out of sight. We started working together and finished 2 minutes ahead of the group. I got 2^nd!
